Making Snus with SnusX
Posted by James in Snus experiencesLast week, I received a make your own snus kit called SnusX fromĀ V2 Tobacco. After setting aside some time to get started, I began work on creating my own flavors of snus! After reading aboutĀ Chadizzy1′s experience with SnusX, I decided to follow his measurement recommendations for single cans and see what kinds of new flavors of snus I could come up with. More photos to come once I transfer them from my digital camera tomorrow.
Step 1:
First, I decided on which flavors to use. Since I’m a big fan of fruit flavored types of snus, I decided to try making two cans of snus, each with a mix of fruit flavor. For snus number 1, I decided to use a mix of citrus and red berry, and for snus number two, I decided to use a mix of red berry and wintergreen flavoring.
Step 2:
Once I decided on these flavors, it was time to get to work! I started off by adding 8ml (1.62 tsp) of water into the empty can provided by V2 for the berry and wintergreen mix. For the berry and citrus mix, I added 10ml (2.02 tsp) of water into an old can that I cleaned out beforehand. Next, it was time to add in the flavoring. I used some small measuring spoons in order to measure the correct amount of flavoring, but next time I think I will use a dropper so I can better control the amount of flavor I use. Since I was doing a mix, I put 0.73ml (.149 tsp) of each flavor per can. If I didn’t mix flavors, I would have used 1.42ml (.29 tsp) of flavoring per can.
Step 3:
After putting the water and flavoring into my empty cans, I counted out 48 portions, and placed 24 in each can. I then mixed them up in order to get them all moist, and then placed them in the fridge for three days, as per the directions.
Final Result:
After letting my snus sit in the fridge for three days, I finally got to taste my creations! The citrus and berry mix came out quite well, although it tasted a little too strong of berry with only a splash of citrus flavor. When I make a second batch, I plan to use more citrus flavor and slightly less red berry, since I find the red berry flavoring to be noticeably stronger than the citrus (even though I used to close to the same amount of each flavor).
The berry and wintergreen snus came out tasting ok, although I probably should have added more berry flavor and less wintergreen in order to better balance out the taste. I have noticed that most brands of snus have a dominant flavor and a subtle flavor, rather than two dominant flavors like this snus had.
I noticed that the nicotine hit is pretty strong from my DIY snus, and I could feel a buzz coming on pretty quickly (although I still need to verify with V2 as to how much mg of nicotine is in each portion). One interesting aspect of this kit is that once a can is ready to be used, there is no real smell of ammonia, only strong smells of the flavorings used.
Overall, my experience with the SnusX kit was very fun and interesting. For the next batch of snus, I plan on playing around with the amount of flavoring I use, along with purchasing a dropper to get more precise measurements. It seems like with more practice, someone could actually make a very tasty snus blend. The SnusX kit is also very economical for the price, and the quality of the tobacco used in the portions appears to be quite good. I imagine that they are the same type of portion that V2 uses in its other brands of snus such as Offroad Cranberry.

Glad you had such great results with it! SnusX is really fun.
