Montecristo Loose
Posted by James in Snus reviewsMontecristo loose is the first loose variety of snus that I will be reviewing here on Snus Authority. Montecristo Snus made its debut in 2004, and is manufactured by Taboca AS. It is manufactured with premium Cuban tobacco and filtered with Norwegian water. Unfortunately due to being manufactured with Cuban tobacco, the Montecristo line of snus cannot be sold in the United States. Each tin comes with 35 grams of snus tobacco in it.
Taste
Being a loose snus, Montecristo requires that you either form a pris using your hands or an Icetool. Montecristo snus is very aromatic, and upon opening a new can I could smell a strong and spicy tobacco scent. Upon putting a pris in I immediately noticed a taste of spicy tobacco mixed in with a hint of cedar. The tobacco flavor is very powerful with this variety of snus, and it is pleasant as an occasionally treat. However, the taste can be powerful at times and I would not use this as my daily snus, especially since it is loose and would be difficult to use at work. Montecristo has 11mg of nicotine per gram of snus, so the nicotine content will vary depending on how much of it you decide to use at once.
Portion
Since there is no portion to speak of, I can’t really talk about that. However, I can mention that Montecristo loose is a finely ground snus, and I had a relatively easy time putting it into my mouth using a prismaster tool (especially since it is very moist, which makes it easy to form). I was able to keep the snus in my mouth for around 30 minutes before it began to run on to my teeth, which was a good length of time because I was beginning to find the flavor a little over powering.
Conclusion
Montecristo loose snus is a very nice brand, and it really reminds me of the taste of Montecristo cigars that I have smoked in the past. The tin design is superb, and is one of the nicer ones that I have seen. I highly recommend this brand of snus to someone who enjoys a powerful and spicy tobacco flavor reminiscent of a cigar.
